Assisted setup of b.print
Applies to: ✅ Microsoft Dynamics Business Central & b.print
After the successful installation of the b.print driver to your print server, as well as the extension installation to your BC environment, you can now use the b.print assisted setup to set up the solution in one go. This article provides guidance for IT administrators on how to perform the b.print assisted setup.
Prerequisites
In order to follow through with the quick setup, you need:
- A set up Business Central environment.
- The necessary network printers are reachable from the users clients (Outside of Business Central).
- The b.print driver has been installed to a network printer.
- A webservice key has been created on the print servers/printers side which enables access to the print sever. (This process differs depending on the printer used)
- The b.print extension has been installed to the desired BC environment.
Quick Setup
To perform the quick setup, please follow the following steps:
-
Log into Business Central with a user that has the permission set SUPER or BMSPRINTERPERMISSION.
[!IMPORTANT] Make sure to log in on a client/user combination that should later on be responsible for connecting with the print server. This can later on also be performed by more than one user.
-
Go to the Business Central search and search for "Assisted Setup".
-
Under Set up your company, find and click on b.print.
-
On the Welcome to b.print Wizard Setup page, click on Next
-
In the Step 2, choose the right event to trigger the printing.\
b.print needs to intercept the print event within Business Central to trigger the printing of b.print instead of the usual Business Central printing. Unfortunately these events differ from version to version and also from report type to report type. Here you can select the event that suits you best. We recommend to start with the event OnDocumentPrintReady. (Timing: The document is ready and is to be printed now.)
You can select between the following values:
- OnDocumentPrintReady - Timing: The document is ready and is to be printed now.
- OnDocumentReady - Timing: Document generation completed.
- CustomDocumentMerger - Timing: When generating the document from record + layout
- OnAfterDocumentPrintReady - Timing: The document is ready and is to be printed now.
Click on Next when you have selected a desired value.
-
In step 3, select the confirmation behavior for printing via b.print. You can select between the following values:
- Show Always Confirmation -
- Always print - Always prints the document in the background via b.print without confirmation needed.
- Always no print - Never prints the document via b.print.
- Printer Selection
Click on Next when you have selected a desired value.
-
In step 4, select a user that you want to set up. Click on Next afterwards.
-
In step 5, the b.print Client must be installed. For that, click on Client Download. Please perform the installation via this guide.
-
After finishing the installation, click on Next to continue the setup.
-
In step 6, you can now try to connect to the printers in your netowrk which your PC in connected to. To do that, click on Test Connection.
-
Click on Next to continue.
You are done with the basic setup. Next, the reports must be set up in the Network Printer Selection.
